Westchester Youth Alliance’s free Youth Leadership Program.
Open to all Westchester high school teens in grades 9-12
Ever feel like you have opinions about the world but no idea what to actually do with them?
This is where you figure that out.
This isn't a class where you sit and listen- it's a space where you lead. Over the course of the year, you'll work with a small group of peers and mentors to develop the skills real changemakers use: how to speak up with confidence, listen so people actually feel heard, and turn an idea into action that reaches your community.
What to expect:
Find your voice — Learn how to express yourself, speak across difference, and show up in your community in a way that brings real positive change for you and those around you.
Build community — Get hands-on with service projects, work alongside professional facilitators, and even visit places most people never get to see, like Sing Sing Correctional Facility, to understand justice and community in a whole new way.
Take action — Pick an issue you care about and turn it into a tangible policy memo, building the civic skills — research, public speaking, coalition-building, civic literacy — that carry into college, career, and lifelong engagement. Present your work to your community, WYA staff, and board members by the end of the year.
You'll leave with a stronger sense of who you are, a portfolio-worthy final project, and a network of peers who are just as fired up about making change as you are.
No experience necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to show up.
